Front Door

There are different types of exterior doors that you can use for your main entrance made from a variety of materials; exterior doors are usually made from wood, fibreglass, or steel and may incorporate windows either in the door itself or in the sidelites or transom above the door.

Wood doors are less popular now than they have been in the past, likely because there are many great alternatives to be found in more modern materials. In the past, wood doors suffered from warping from damp weather but are now assembled so that they don’t warp and are stronger. A wood door is a nice touch if you have an older home where a steel or fibreglass door would look out of place.

Fibreglass doors are moulded around an insulating core and can be found in many different designs, colors, and textures. They are resistant to cracking, mold and mildew, and discoloration. Because of the properties of fibreglass, these types of doors don’t warp or expand with changes in the weather. Fibreglass can be painted if desired as well.

Steel doors are also a good choice for a durable exterior door. Steel doors are constructed with an inner insulating core that performs very well for keeping the cold outside. Many steel doors have glass inserts in them which add to their attractiveness but takes away from their insulating qualities. Steel doors are usually painted with a baked on coating that can be painted over if you’re looking for a particular colour to accent the front of your home with. Steel insulated doors are particularly airtight and durable and are a fantastic way to add value to your home.

New exterior doors are a great way to add to the street appeal of your home because they are the gateway of your house; because a new front door also adds insulation and security to your home, it’s also a very good investment to spend money on. Exterior door upgrades are known to give very good returns on the money that you invest on them as well!
